A business coach is a professional mentor who supports, educates, and motivates business owners. They provide recommendations for a company’s vision, growth, and goals. Effective business coaches provide motivation but also implement and prioritize strategies to help businesses grow. A business mentor is usually an accomplished business professional who offers guidance, advice, and support from their own personal experience. They generally have a strong knowledge of all (or most) aspects of business and act as a trusted adviser for you and your business. The work of a business mentor will involve both your business and you as a person. Coaching relationships usually start as a formal business transaction, while mentorship usually starts as a way for the mentor to give back to a mentee they believe in and without expectation for payment. Coaching is more structured and driven toward an end result, whereas mentoring is more focused on the mentor/mentee relationship that the mentee gradually learns from.
